SEB Membership

Benefits of SEB Membership

Membership to the Society provides academics, researchers, early career scientists, students and teachers with access to an international community of experimental biologists.

Conferences and Symposia

The SEB organises a number of exciting meetings each year covering the breadth of the Society’s research interests. Membership of the SEB provides you with a 40% reduction on conference registration fees.

Satellite Funding

SEB Members can apply for SEB funding to help with the organisation of satellite meetings; each of the SEB Sections is allocated £3000 per annum for this purpose.  For information on how to apply, please click here

Educational and Public Relations Support

The Society offers a number of opportunities for members including training workshops, science communication with the public, providing a political voice for the scientific community, media relations and press release service for members, bursaries for postgraduates in science communication and a University Talks Fund.

Student and Early Postdoc Travel Grants

The SEB offers students and early-career scientists two grant schemes which between them cover travel to both national and overseas conferences, visiting labs or attending workshops, as well as subsidised attendance, often more than 50% of costs, to SEB Meetings.

Society Awards

The SEB recognises outstanding scientists through numerous awards. The President’s Medal is awarded annually to early-career scientists of exceptional merit, young scientists and post-graduate students can compete for the Young Experimental Biologist of the Year award and those working towards obtaining their PhD can enter the SEB Poster Prize held at the Main Meeting.

Reduced Subscriptions to Society Journals

Discounts are available for all hard-copy and on-line subscriptions of all our SEB journals and book series including The Plant Journal (Impact Factor 6.751
), The Journal for Experimental Botany (Impact Factor 3.917 ), Plant Biotechnology Journal (Impact Factor 3.392 ), Advances in Experimental Biology and the Seminar Seriesencompassing Experimental Biology Reviews.

Worldwide Forum

Through the different scientific interest groups run by the Society, the lively and informative website, regular news bulletins and monthly e-mail newsletters, the SEB provides members with access to experimental biologists anywhere in the world. The Society for Experimental Biology is passionate about all aspects of biology. We are a multidisciplinary Society encompassing Plant, Animal and Cell Biology, playing an active role in bringing biologists together on a regular basis.

Sections

Plant, Animal and Cell Sections are divided into a number of Interest Groups. The Society for Experimental Biology encourages regular meetings within each Section and Interest Group by supporting these events. This provides our members with opportunities to meet and discuss research with their peers, which ultimately helps to forward biological research.

Research Communities

The SEB currently runs 15 different Interest Groups covering the breadth of experimental biology from the molecular to the organismal. It caters for animal, plant and cell biologists and encourages scientific studies across these boundaries. As a member of one of the SEB Interest Groups you automatically enter a lively community of scientists and have the opportunity to contact other members at any time.

Education and Career Development

The SEB is committed to supporting its members in aspects of education and career development.
See www.sebiology.org/education for a comprehensive overview of our services to members.

Career Management Workshops

We run careers workshops specially designed for Biosciences postgraduates and postdoctorals. Sessions include self assessment, skills evaluation, decision-making, CVs and interview technique as well as vacancy resources. Get in touch if you would like us to run an event at your institution.
