Sense about science round logo

At our Standing up for Science workshops, ECRs hear directly from researchers further along in their careers about their experiences – both good and bad – of working with the media and policy worlds. They then hear directly from experienced journalists and policy professionals who will bust common misconceptions about how the media and policy worlds work and what they need from scientists to operate effectively.

The day also includes a practical session to support ECRs with tools and insights on the importance of talking about evidence, particularly on topics where the public conversation can go wrong, such as when talking about settled science, uncertainty, limitations of research, risk, and peer review.

Our workshops are an opportunity for ECRs to connect with their peers from different institutions and disciplines in an informal and relaxed setting and share their concerns and questions about communicating science to the public.
