Coordinated by Guest Editors Erika Eliason, Christopher Guglielmo, Natalie Holt and Monica Daley, this special issue will consider the biology of exercise at all levels of organisation, across animal groups and scientific fields.

We are calling for novel, forward-looking papers related to training and exercise physiology/biomechanics in a comparative framework from the cellular level to its effects on organs, tissues and whole organism performance, spanning both vertebrate and invertebrate species. We also encourage Review articles that incorporate meta-analyses in these fields. Although the aim is to have a broadly comparative focus, we are also keen to consider how the biomedical field can inform comparative physiology and vice versa.

Article submission deadline:  27 June 2025
