Venue: Online
Programme
Session 1: Introduction to our ‘I Don’t Know What to Believe’ Guide
This session introduces our ‘I Don’t Know What to Believe’ Guide and addresses the public perception of peer review and whether it helps the public understand the status of scientific claims. It also explores how journalists use peer review and how the media report the status and quality of research.
Session 2: Peer review: the nuts and bolts
This session explains the process of peer review in journal publishing and explores critical questions, including what peer review does for science, should reviewers remain anonymous and whether it detects fraud and misconduct, as well as how early career researchers can engage with the process.
The three experts on the panel include a scientist who will share their experience of authoring and reviewing papers, an editor who will talk about making decisions on papers and selecting reviewers, and a publisher who will provide the big picture – the current systems and future innovations to address some of the problems identified.
